*Shatavari hails from the asparagus family, it has many root tubers. In Ayurveda, the juicy tubers of the plant have health benefits. In fact, the meaning of Shatavari is that it has hundreds of roots. It is considered to keep the female reproductive system healthy and support healthy conception. Additionally, Shatavari promotes lactation after childbirth. The Shatavari plant is very versatile in that it can grow in a variety of climates in South Asia. The nutrients present in Shatavari are so nourishing that it is conducive to every tissue of the body. It is considered the ultimate female tonic with rejuvenating action on the entire gut. The nutrient fluids generated from Shatavari are deeply nourishing to the eyes and brain.

Morphology:
Shatavari is a scandent climber, highly branched, prickly undershrub. Prickles 0.5-1.5 cm in length. Roots are tuberous, elongated, straight or curved. Flowers appear in racemes, 2.5 – 5 cm in length. pedicles – 0.4 cm. Fruits are berry, pea-like, small, red when ripe. Fruits are red in color. Shatavari is found in entire India, up to an altitude of 4,000 feet.
